Havana

Havana is the broad provincial entry point for Cuba's capital region. The present city of Havana was founded by the Spanish in 1519 and grew around its bay, port, and defensive works. Old Havana and its fortification system were inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1982. Later growth added ceremonial avenues, theaters, hotels, neighborhoods such as Vedado, and a long waterfront that helps visitors read the city in layers rather than as a single district.
